Najjanankumbi — Today, senior elders of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) convened with the party’s two presidential candidates in a pivotal meeting aimed at fostering unity ahead of Thursday’s delegates’ conference.

The meeting brought together Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the incumbent party president, and Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the party’s secretary general—both of whom have declared their interest in contesting the presidency. The elders are working to promote harmony within the party, encouraging respect for the forthcoming conference results and, if possible, reaching consensus on a single candidate to present a united front and avoid internal divisions.

The focus remains on unity and respect for the democratic process within the party.

As discussions continue, the FDC posted a photograph on their official Facebook page showing black smoke billowing from the chimney. The symbolic image signals that no final decision has yet been reached.

“Black smoke for now!” the post read, echoing the famous phrase from the papal conclave, signaling that negotiations are still ongoing.

The party and its supporters now await the outcome of Thursday’s delegates’ conference, hoping that the spirit of unity prevails.
