Amuria District - NRM league youth leaders in Amuria District have voiced strong support for State Minister Musa Francis Ecweru, the Member of Parliament for Amuria County, praising his commitment to sustainable development projects rather than short-term handouts. The youth have lauded his relentless lobbying for government-funded programs that have dramatically improved infrastructure and social services across the district.
Okirior Simon Peter, a prominent youth leader, spoke exclusively to this publication, emphasizing Minister Ecweru’s critical role in rehabilitating long-neglected road networks. He explained that roads, which had been impassable for decades, are now open and functional, linking remote areas to major business hubs. This, according to Okirior, has been a “game changer” for local businesses, facilitating the transport of goods and stimulating economic growth.
Despite Minister Ecweru’s recent loss in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries, an election overshadowed by allegations of irregularities, the youth remain steadfast in their call for his return to Parliament. They stress that his experience and dedication are vital to sustaining the momentum of development in Amuria.
“We need him back because he understands our community’s needs and has the influence to lobby for more resources that directly benefit us,” said Okirior.
The youth also recognize Minister Ecweru’s efforts in empowering local youth groups. His interventions have enabled many youth organizations to access government programs and funding, enhancing their ability to undertake income-generating projects and improve livelihoods. This inclusive approach has not only fostered youth participation but also created opportunities for skills development and employment.
One of the key achievements attributed to Minister Ecweru is the lobbying of the construction of Apeduru Seed Secondary School. This institution has expanded access to affordable education, providing a conducive learning environment that has helped reduce dropout rates. The youth applaud the minister for prioritizing education, seeing it as fundamental to the district’s future.
Recently, Minister Ecweru led a tour with youth leaders to showcase the development initiatives underway across Amuria County. During the tour, he highlighted several roads that had been neglected for over 30 years. Many of these roads were not included in local or central government plans until his proactive lobbying and innovative strategies secured their rehabilitation. This development has facilitated the emergence of new trading centers, boosting commercial activity across the district.
Addressing the youth at Apeduru Seed Secondary School, Minister Ecweru pledged continued efforts to improve educational infrastructure. He announced plans to construct dormitories for girls, offering safe accommodation within school premises to encourage higher completion rates among female students, who often face challenges related to travel and safety.
The youth of Amuria District remain optimistic that Minister Ecweru’s political comeback will revitalize development efforts and improve service delivery. They are urging the electorate to recognize the progress made under his leadership and to give him the opportunity to continue championing their causes in Parliament.
