The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among, has received a major political boost after delegates from Soroti City, Soroti District, Kalaki, and Kaberamaido formally endorsed her bid for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The endorsement, made during a series of strategic meetings across the Teso sub-region, marks a significant development in the lead-up to the party’s internal elections, where she is set to challenge incumbent Rt Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.
Among’s supporters in the region cited her exceptional leadership qualities, track record in service delivery, and strong grassroots presence as key reasons for their unwavering support. Her consistent engagement with local communities and demonstrated commitment to development have resonated deeply with the electorate in these districts, with many delegates pledging to deliver overwhelming votes in her favor.
During the endorsement gathering, Maria Gorret Ajilo, NRM Chairperson for Kalaki District, announced that the district is solidly behind Among and confident in her ability to lead at the national level. She stated that the region is proud of Among’s leadership and her continuous efforts to uplift the Teso sub-region. Her remarks were echoed by other party leaders and local officials who emphasized Among’s direct contributions to regional development initiatives.
David Ababa, the District Councilor representing Ocero sub-county in Kaberamaido, highlighted the Speaker’s successful lobbying efforts that led to the allocation of over UGX 1 billion for road rehabilitation in the area. He urged her to continue advocating for increased financial support for local councils, particularly at the grassroots level, where services are most urgently needed.
Representing Rt Hon. Among at the various meetings was Workers MP Arinaitwe Rwakajara, who relayed her message of unity and commitment to the people of Teso. He noted the high level of enthusiasm across the districts, saying that the people were appreciative of Among’s patriotism, integrity, and ideological clarity. According to Rwakajara, the Speaker’s character and accomplishments have won her deep respect across the region.
As the NRM prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive internal election, Among’s growing support in Soroti, Kalaki, and Kaberamaido places her in a strong position. The endorsement from these key districts could prove decisive in shaping the final outcome of the CEC race.
