In a dramatic twist of events, legendary Teso singer Emong Johnson Otinga has publicly reversed his stance on the ‘STAMP’ (Sevo for Teso Artists Mobilization Project) initiative, now backing and endorsing the very project he vehemently criticized just days ago.
Just over the weekend, Otinga had appeared on an interview where he launched a blistering attack on STAMP, particularly its newly elected leadership. He reportedly called leaders like Davido Spider opportunistic and self-seeking, questioning their legitimacy. "But who elected Davido as the chairman of Teso artists? You cannot just come from nowhere and claim to lead the artists," Otinga was widely quoted as saying, expressing dismay and a feeling that his own leadership position was threatened.
However, Otinga’s perception has undergone a swift transformation following a meeting with STAMP chairman Davido Spider and vice-chairperson Ibwalet. Speaking exclusively earlier today, Otinga declared his new position: "I am still the chairman of all Teso artists and I am also a member of the STAMP project where we are ready to mobilize votes for the president."
He further clarified his previous comments, attributing them to a misunderstanding. "I had not fully understood the mobilization, hence rushing to give a comment," Otinga admitted.
Beyond the STAMP endorsement, Otinga also used the opportunity to reinforce his long-standing allegiance to the ruling NRM party. He recounted how he previously showcased scars on his body, explaining it was to demonstrate the mistreatment he endured from rebels due to his unwavering support for the NRM. Otinga concluded by appealing to the government to acknowledge his dedication and hear his plea for appreciation.
