SERERE – Delegates of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Serere District have today unanimously thrown their weight behind Speaker Anita Among, endorsing her bid for the influential position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) within the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC). This position is considered one of the NRM's top three decision-making roles.
The endorsement came during a delegates meeting where party leaders expressed overwhelming support for the Speaker.
Olobo Michael, the Serere District NRM Chairperson, lauded Speaker Among for her "strong and unifying leadership exhibited in the past years," emphasizing her suitability for a senior party role.
Echoing the sentiments of support, Echodu Ediau Wilbroad, the chairperson of elders, stressed the importance of retaining Speaker Among, stating, "We can’t afford to lose Anita and urged all delegates to support her for the key decision-making position." Echodu also used the platform to request Speaker Among to "consider Serere District cadres in various positions or placements" should she secure the national role.
This plea for post-election recognition was reiterated by Emanio Richard, Vice Chairperson of the Workers League. "The delegates are only remembered and considered during delegates conference, but the usefulness of these delegates should also be recognized after elections," Emanio remarked, highlighting a common concern among party loyalists.
Philip Oucor, the NRM Flagbearer for Pingire County MP, added his voice to the growing chorus of endorsements. "The candidature of Anita is symbolic and we take pride in it. We have unanimously endorsed her and shall move together in this journey," Oucor declared, underlining the district's collective support.
Representing Speaker Among at the gathering, Workers MP Hon. Arinatwe Rwakajara conveyed her appreciation and urged Serere delegates to rally behind her bid for the top CEC position. Rwakajara further credited Speaker Among's tenure, noting, "During Rt Anita Annet Among’s era we have not lost members to the opposition but rather converted many opposition members to NRM," presenting her as a unifying and growth-oriented figure for the party.
