As the general election season intensifies, the State Minister for Fisheries and Woman Member of Parliament for Serere District, Hon. Hellen Adoa, has issued a stern warning to students, urging them not to become pawns in the increasingly heated political battles unfolding across the country.
In a recent press interview, Minister Adoa expressed concern about the growing trend of politicians recruiting young people, particularly students, to engage in disruptive activities both online and in public spaces. She highlighted the dangers of students being manipulated to spread abusive messages on social media platforms or to cause disturbances during political campaigns. The minister specifically warned against the use of alcohol and other means to influence young people to act aggressively or disorganize campaigns of opposing political candidates.
“A lot of students are being targeted and used by politicians who are more interested in winning at any cost than in the well-being of our youth,” Adoa remarked. She urged students to remain focused on their studies and personal development, reminding them that their futures should not be jeopardized by involvement in political conflicts.
Minister Adoa also called upon parents, teachers, and community leaders to play a more active role in guiding students during this critical period. She emphasized the importance of discipline and responsible behavior, especially as students prepare for a long holiday that could otherwise leave them vulnerable to political manipulation.
The minister appealed to voters and the wider public to avoid creating an environment where young people are coerced or enticed into political unrest. “Politics is a game for adults who must lead responsibly. Students should not be dragged into the turmoil that comes with election seasons,” she said.
Minister Adoa’s warning comes as political activities across the country shift into high gear, and tensions rise ahead of the general elections. Her message serves as a timely reminder of the need to protect the youth from exploitation and ensure peaceful, respectful political engagement.
