Uganda’s entertainment industry has been thrown into controversy after a bitter fallout erupted between Louis Music Management and Wakanda Management over the ownership of a song titled Edokiyo. The dispute, which has now spilled into the public domain, has exposed deep cracks in artist management practices and raised urgent concerns about intellectual property rights in the music sector.

Louis Music Management accuses Wakanda of orchestrating the theft of Edokiyo, a track written by Naffe Cee, an artist under Louis Music. The management said that Rody Gavana, a singer managed by Wakanda, approached Cannis Odd from Louis Management requesting a collaboration on the song. Cannis Odd stated that he consulted his management and received permission to proceed with the collabo, only for the project to be manipulated and later released solely under Rody Gavana’s name.

In a press briefing, Cannis Odd said the intention behind the collaboration was never to cede ownership but to build mutual artistry. “We trusted the process and honored the request in good faith. Unfortunately, Wakanda turned it into an opportunity to hijack the song,” he remarked.

Following the release, Louis Music Management moved swiftly, filing complaints and successfully striking down the track from YouTube, citing copyright infringement. The takedown has ignited debate in Uganda’s music industry, with many calling for tighter regulations to protect artists from exploitation and theft of creative works.

The saga has also polarized fans, with supporters of both managements trading barbs on social media. While Wakanda Management has yet to issue an official statement, Louis Music insists it will explore legal avenues to reclaim full recognition for Naffe Cee and ensure justice is served.

As the Edokiyo row intensifies, industry stakeholders warn that such disputes, if left unchecked, could discourage collaborations and stifle the growth of Uganda’s fast-rising music industry.
