The Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Soroti, John Michael Okurut, has issued a stern warning to the youth of Moruapersur, urging them to cease actions that could disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the city as the upcoming election campaign season intensifies.

Speaking to the press , Okurut expressed growing concerns over the rising insecurity, particularly in the Moruapersur area, which he believes is contributing to tension in the town. According to Okurut, this rising unrest could potentially disrupt the smooth execution of election activities as political actors prepare for the heated campaign period.

“Our city has been experiencing disturbances, and we cannot ignore the fact that some of these issues are originating from Moruapersur,” said Okurut. “As we head into the campaign season, we must ensure that all citizens are allowed to express their political views without causing chaos. I strongly advise the youth in this area to refrain from actions that could undermine peace.”

The RCC stressed that security forces are on high alert and are prepared to take strict measures if necessary to ensure that political campaigns are conducted in a safe and secure environment. He further emphasized that while everyone has the right to freely choose their leaders, they must also respect the rights of others to do the same.

“In the coming weeks, we will issue clear guidelines for citizens to follow during the campaign period,” Okurut noted. “We are committed to maintaining law and order, and I urge all political actors and their supporters to follow the rules and avoid any form of violence or intimidation.”

Okurut’s statement comes as the nation approaches a politically charged season, with elections expected to bring a surge of activities and public engagement. The commissioner’s call for peace is aimed at ensuring that the residents of Soroti, particularly those in Moruapersur, can participate in the electoral process without fear of violence or harassment.

As tensions rise ahead of the campaigns, the RCC reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the rights of all citizens, while ensuring that the rule of law prevails. Security forces are set to enforce these guidelines and uphold order to ensure that Soroti remains a model of peace and democratic participation in the region.
