Soroti City — Political aspirant Rody Akongel Mukula, who is contesting for the Member of Parliament seat for Soroti City East Division in the upcoming 2026 general elections, has spoken out against claims that he is being fronted as a “project” by senior political figures.
Addressing journalists during a press conference, Mukula strongly refuted the allegations, emphasizing that his decision to run for office is based on personal conviction and a genuine desire to serve the people.
“Many people have come out to say that I’m a project and that I’ve been sent by Mzee, but that’s not true,” Mukula stated. “I’m a gentleman of sound mind with a legal background. I have the right to choose my political party and, as a Ugandan, I have the right to serve my people — just like anyone else.”
Mukula, who is the son of former Soroti Municipality MP and NRM Eastern Uganda Vice Chairperson Captain Mike Mukula, clarified that he does not consider himself entitled to political power because of his father’s legacy.
“Leadership is not about entitlement,” he said. “Just because my father once served in Parliament does not mean I am entitled to power. The power belongs to the people. I have simply offered myself to serve — the people will choose on that day.”
The aspiring legislator assured the electorate that if given the mandate, he will work for all residents of Soroti City East, regardless of their political affiliation or voting choices.
“If chosen as Member of Parliament, I will represent everyone — even those who did not vote for me. It will be my interest to ensure that all are covered, and that even children who cannot vote have access to quality education,” he pledged.
Mukula concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the people of Soroti City East, stressing that his decision to join the race is rooted in service, not inheritance.
“I have come with a heart to serve, with knowledge, and with humility. I am not a project — I am a servant of the people,” he said.
