Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has donated UGX 50 million to support the development initiatives of His Royal Highness Papa Emorimor III Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot, aimed at promoting education and community empowerment across the Teso sub-region.
The donation was announced on Saturday during the third coronation anniversary of the Emorimor, held at Emokori Grounds in Bukedea District. The colorful event attracted thousands of people, including cultural leaders, government officials, and residents from across Teso, who gathered to celebrate their cultural heritage and unity.
While delivering a message on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Speaker Among commended Emorimor Emolot for his visionary leadership, strong mobilization, and development-oriented approach that continues to inspire transformation among the Iteso. She said the President recognizes the Emorimor as a key cultural leader who has gone beyond traditional roles to influence socio-economic growth.
“The President is impressed by the Emorimor’s efforts in uniting the people of Teso and promoting cooperative development,” Speaker Among said. “As leaders, we must emulate his example of tolerance, inclusiveness, and service above self.”
Moments after delivering the President’s message, Among made a personal donation of UGX 50 million to the Emorimor, pledging continued support toward his education and community empowerment programs. She announced that the funds would be directed to the Emorimor Education Fund and the Akaliat Development Foundation (AKADEF), two initiatives under the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) designed to uplift livelihoods in the region.
“As the Office of the Speaker of Parliament, I am donating this money to support your programs as part of our continued efforts to advance your vision for Teso,” Among stated. “Such visionary initiatives deserve the backing of government leaders and development partners. Together, we can make the Emorimor’s dream for a prosperous Teso a reality.
Among noted that the Emorimor’s focus on education, cooperative development, and cultural revival resonates with the government’s agenda of building self-reliant communities. She encouraged both local and international partners to join in supporting the Emorimor’s initiatives that seek to empower women, youth, and farmers.
In his response, Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot expressed deep gratitude to the Speaker for her generosity and recognition of his vision for the Iteso people. He said the funds would help strengthen programs that promote education and economic empowerment through cooperative societies and community-based projects.
“We are committed to mobilizing our people to take part in development. With support like this, we can expand access to education, finance, and entrepreneurship opportunities across Teso,” the Emorimor said.
The Akaliat Development Foundation, one of the beneficiaries, was officially launched during the same event alongside the Akolong Newspaper, a publication under the Iteso Cultural Union intended to enhance information sharing and civic awareness.
The coronation ceremony ended on a high note, with messages of unity and development echoing across Emokori Grounds as leaders pledged to support the Emorimor’s vision for a culturally rich and economically empowered Teso.
