In a spirited grassroots campaign that is steadily gaining momentum, Serere Woman Member of Parliament aspirant Acom Esther Lucy on Saturday afternoon addressed hundreds of enthusiastic residents in Ayima Village, Kakusi Parish, Olio Sub-County.

The gathering, predominantly made up of women and youth, reaffirmed their pledge to give her a block vote in the forthcoming elections, citing years of neglect and poor service delivery from the current leadership.

The residents of Kakusi, a parish grappling with a range of socio-economic challenges, turned up in large numbers, braving the sweltering heat to hear Acom’s plans for a better and more inclusive future.

Speaking at the rally, Acom began by acknowledging the community’s resilience amid leadership neglect. “I see women walking long distances to fetch water, children trekking miles to attend school, and expectant mothers struggling to reach health centers. This must change,” she declared to deafening applause.

The community members expressed dismay at the poor condition of the road network, which, they said, limits access to markets, schools, and health services. Many women decried the lack of a primary school in the area, forcing children to travel over five kilometers daily to access education, often in unsafe conditions. Others spoke of what they called perpetual segregation by the current leadership, accusing them of sidelining Kakusi in terms of development projects.

While addressing these grievances, Acom Esther Lucy highlighted her commitment to prioritizing education, health, infrastructure, and economic empowerment once elected. “Where there is a road, there is life. Where there is a school, there is hope. We are reclaiming our dignity through unity and action,” she said.

Her grassroots campaign, which began early this month, has been characterized by soaring turnouts wherever she goes. Locals credit her for creating spaces where every voice is heard, particularly women and youth who feel marginalized. Despite reports of systematic attempts to undermine her meetings, Acom has maintained a consistent message of inclusive leadership, accountability, and community-driven development.

One elder in the gathering, Mama Eunice, told our reporter, “For years, we have shown love to leaders, but they forgot us. Acom is the first to sit with us, eat with us, and listen to our tears. This is why we are giving her all our votes.”

Political analysts in the region describe Acom’s grassroots approach as strategic, especially in an environment where direct engagement with ordinary citizens is often overlooked. By traveling village to village, listening to concerns, and offering realistic solutions, she is rewriting the script of what effective political engagement looks like in rural Uganda.

As the campaign season intensifies, Acom Esther Lucy’s message of transformative leadership and unity appears to be resonating deeply with the people of Olio Sub-County. With each stop, she not only gains support but also breathes a renewed sense of hope into communities that had almost given up on electoral change.

The road to the 2026 polls remains challenging, but if the scenes in Ayima Village are anything to go by, Acom Esther Lucy could be on the verge of making history.
