Soroti District — Dakabela County parliamentary aspirant Harriet Anyimo has held a prayer session at her residence in Awidiayan Village, Katine Sub-county, as she prepares for the 2025 general elections.
The prayers were attended by her campaign agents, coordinators, teammates, and several community stakeholders, marking an important milestone in her early campaign engagements.
While delivering the sermon, Bishop Israel Tukei of Light Resurrection Ministries urged the congregation to support leaders who are servants of the people—leaders who listen to the electorate and are guided by vision. He cautioned voters against electing leaders without direction, emphasizing that true vision comes from God.
Bishop Tukei further noted that the Almighty has anointed Harriet Anyimo as a servant leader ready to listen to and work with the people of Dakabela County. He encouraged the Iteso community to remain steadfast in prayer, expressing optimism that the region has a brighter future ahead as the country approaches the coming polls.
In a symbolic act of dedication, Bishop Tukei, together with the visitors, raised their hands toward the candidate and committed her to God, praying for divine protection, guidance, and success in the forthcoming elections. Special prayers were also offered for her safety throughout the campaign season, asking God to protect her from all forms of danger.
Addressing supporters, Anyimo, who is contesting as an independent candidate, said her decision to join the race is driven by the need to address persistent challenges facing the constituency. She cited poor road networks, inadequate health services, and limited access to other essential public services as some of the key issues affecting residents.
She also called for increased female representation in leadership, arguing that women bring a strong service-delivery approach to governance. Anyimo said Dakabela County has suffered due to limited lobbying and ineffective representation, adding that her personal efforts to support the community highlight the many gaps that still exist.
“Today, I call upon God to open the heavens for me as I contest and to show me the right path as I seek to serve my people,” Anyimo said.
She pledged that once elected, she would rally behind the community, speak as the voice of the voiceless on the floor of Parliament, and lobby for services aimed at transforming Dakabela County.
Harriet Anyimo is expected to face competition from Erau Jonathan of the Forum for Democratic Change, Peter Edopu of the National Resistance Movement, and the incumbent Member of Parliament, Cosmos Elotu, in what is anticipated to be a competitive 2025 parliamentary race.
