Kampala — Lawyer Joshua Okello Patrick has appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to facilitate urgent medical treatment for former Speaker Anita Annet Among, whom he says is suffering from a severe blood clot that has left her in extreme pain and unable to walk.

In an exclusive interview, Counsel Joshua stated that Among's condition requires immediate specialized medical attention, describing it as a humanitarian matter that should be addressed regardless of any ongoing political or legal issues.

He emphasized that Among has made significant contributions to the National Resistance Movement (NRM), particularly through grassroots mobilization, which he said strengthened the party and demonstrated her loyalty to President Museveni and the party leadership.

According to Joshua, the reported blood clot poses serious health risks and requires advanced medical care. He stressed that access to adequate healthcare is a fundamental human right and urged the President to authorize her travel abroad for specialized treatment, arguing that the necessary medical technologies are not available locally.

Addressing the legal scrutiny surrounding Among's tenure, the lawyer maintained that compassion should take precedence, noting that an individual must first be in good health before participating in any legal proceedings.

Joshua further called on the NRM leadership to uphold the party's values of unity and solidarity by supporting Among during what he described as a difficult period. He argued that granting her permission to seek treatment abroad would demonstrate the party's commitment to caring for its members in times of need.

Counsel Joshua also urged President Museveni to intervene on humanitarian grounds, expressing hope that facilitating Anita Among's travel for specialized medical care would help restore her health, preserve her dignity, and reinforce political goodwill.
