Soroti City — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has today demonstrated growing political strength in Soroti City West as its parliamentary flag bearer, David Calvin Echodu, held well-attended campaign rallies in Oderai and Majengo wards, attracting supporters from across the political divide.

The rallies drew large crowds of residents who turned up to listen to Echodu’s manifesto. The events were also attended by key NRM figures, including Teddy Acham, the party mobiliser, several NRM flag bearers, and other stakeholders involved in grassroots mobilisation.

Addressing the gatherings, Soroti City Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Okurut John Michael assured residents of tight security before, during, and after polling day, urging them to participate peacefully in the electoral process. He described Echodu as a focused and development-oriented leader capable of addressing the city’s long-standing challenges.

The RCC further dismissed claims circulating among political opponents that Echodu would abandon the constituency after being elected, insisting that the NRM candidate was committed to serving the people of Soroti City West. He cautioned voters against misinformation intended to mislead the electorate.

In his address, Echodu took a critical look at Soroti City’s development trajectory, citing poor road infrastructure, youth unemployment, and weak service delivery as urgent concerns requiring practical solutions rather than political rhetoric.

He challenged criticism about his style of public address, arguing that leadership should be judged by results. Using a football analogy, Echodu criticised previous leadership for what he described as years of stagnation, saying Soroti City had failed to keep pace with other cities.

Echodu called on voters to support President Yoweri Museveni and all NRM flag bearers, saying the party’s leadership offered an opportunity for renewed development, improved service delivery, and job creation.

The campaign was further marked by a political shift in Majengo ward, where several known supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) defected to the NRM. The defectors were officially received by Echodu together with Soroti City NRM Chairperson Enomu before being issued NRM yellow party T-shirts.

The cross-party defections and strong turnout at the rallies signalled increasing momentum for the NRM in Soroti City West as campaigns intensify ahead of polling day.
