Newly elected politicians in Soroti City have been urged to remain vigilant against fraudsters posing as influential intermediaries offering access to high ranking government positions. The caution was issued during a recent Soroti City Council session by Assistant Resident City Commissioner for Soroti City East Division, Sam Okiring.
Okiring disclosed that his office has begun receiving reports of individuals approaching leaders with claims of having connections to powerful figures in government. These con men allegedly demand large sums of money sometimes up to UGX 20 million promising to use their “links” to secure prominent appointments.
He warned that the excitement surrounding recent electoral victories could make politicians more susceptible to such scams. Okiring advised leaders to remain cautious, verify information through official channels, and avoid engaging with individuals making suspicious offers.
The commissioner also called for cooperation among elected officials, emphasizing the need to work together to improve service delivery and accelerate development in Soroti City.
Meanwhile, Okiring reassured residents about the current security situation, noting that it remains calm. He highlighted a decline in cases of nighttime attacks and waylaying, attributing the progress to strengthened security measures aimed at ensuring public safety.
