Soroti City residents are reeling after the brutal killing of Kokunda Patricia a mobile money agent, who was fatally shot during an armed robbery early last Friday.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the incident occurred on 3rd April 2026 at approximately 4:40 a.m. at Teso Coach Park along Station Road, near Goalman Supermarket. Reports indicate that the victim was ambushed by armed assailants who robbed her of personal belongings before shooting her, leaving her dead at the scene. In response to the attack, police and sister security agencies launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators.
Their efforts have so far resulted in the arrest of four suspects. Two individuals, identified as Okello Alex and Onego Felix, were apprehended on the same day of the incident. A third suspect, Epeu Simon, also known as Iboda, was later arrested in Anyara, Kalaki District, where authorities recovered 7 million Ugandan shillings believed to be part of the stolen money.
The final arrest came on 4th April 2026, when the suspected shooter, Elacu Alfred, was taken into custody in Orungo, Amuria District. Authorities also recovered the victim’s smartphone, which had been discarded in a bush in Kichinjani.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to recover additional evidence and establish the full circumstances surrounding the crime.
The suspects remain in custody and are expected to face charges of murder and aggravated robbery. The Uganda Police Force has urged the public to remain vigilant and to provide any information that could aid the investigation. The tragic killing has renewed calls for improved security measures, particularly in early morning hours.
