Kumi — The Bishop of the Church of Uganda Diocese of Kumi, Rt. Rev. Michael Okwii Esakhan, has raised concerns over what he described as selective justice and growing political division amid ongoing investigations involving outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among.

In a pastoral guidance letter addressed to Christians, leaders, and the wider Ugandan public, Bishop Esakhan called for fairness, accountability, peace, and unity as the country continues to witness heightened political debate and public scrutiny surrounding recent national events.

The Bishop emphasized that justice must remain impartial and credible to all citizens, warning against actions that may create perceptions of bias, political persecution, or unequal treatment before the law.

“Justice, transparency, accountability, honesty, and truth are pillars that should guide every society. We must avoid selective justice and actions that weaken public trust,” the Bishop stated.

His remarks come at a time when investigations involving Anita Among have attracted widespread national attention, triggering political reactions, public debate, and discussions within different sections of society.

Bishop Esakhan also expressed concern over increasing political hostility, hatred, revenge politics, corruption, nepotism, and the commercialization of politics, saying such trends continue to divide communities and weaken national unity.

He cautioned Ugandans against celebrating the downfall or suffering of others during difficult political moments, reminding citizens that leadership positions are temporary and that every individual deserves dignity and fairness.

“Today it may be another person facing difficulties, but tomorrow the same situation may return upon us or our own families,” he noted.

The Bishop further urged political leaders, citizens, and institutions to embrace humility, reconciliation, responsible leadership, and peaceful coexistence instead of promoting division, insults, and political hostility.

In his message, Bishop Esakhan extended prayers and encouragement to Anita Among, her family, supporters, and all individuals facing difficult moments during the ongoing investigations.

The pastoral letter has since generated discussion across political and social circles, with many interpreting it as a call for national unity, justice, and restraint during a politically sensitive period in Uganda.
