Soroti City:Women entrepreneurs from Soroti District, Soroti City, and Serere have been encouraged to embrace government empowerment programs and strengthen their business management skills to improve their livelihoods and fight poverty.

This was during a business training organized by Enterprise Uganda under the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project, a government initiative implemented through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to support and empower women in business.

The training, held at Windows Hall in Soroti City West, brought together women entrepreneurs from different sectors with the aim of equipping them with practical skills in business management, customer care, financial discipline, and enterprise growth.

Speaking at the training, Bagole Charles, the National Trainer for the GROW Project, said women’s involvement in business is vital for economic transformation and family development. He urged participants to fully utilize the opportunities provided under the project to improve their standards of living.

“The GROW Project is a government program aimed at uplifting women entrepreneurs and helping them grow sustainable businesses,” Bagole said.

Andrew Niwagira, the National Coordinator at Enterprise Uganda, trained participants on what he described as the “ten ways of winning in business.” He emphasized the importance of customer care, financial discipline, and proper management of business capital.

Nwega cautioned women against unnecessary credit sales and extravagant lifestyles that could affect business growth. He advised entrepreneurs to separate business funds from personal expenses to ensure steady growth and sustainability.

“It is always important to protect your capital and avoid interfering with business money if your enterprise is to succeed,” he said.

Adupo Florence, the Regional Coordinator for Enterprise Uganda in the Eastern Region, encouraged women to actively engage in income-generating activities to uplift their families and communities.

Meanwhile, James Small Chemutai, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for West Division, urged women to embrace government programs aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing poverty, saying such initiatives are intended to economically empower citizens across the country.
