Kampala - Police at Kira Road Police Station have arrested three suspects in connection with the death of professional rugby player Sydney Gongodyo following an incident that occurred on June 5, 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Ssebagala Noordin, Ayebazibwe Roden, and Namukose Juliet. They are currently being held in police custody and are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Gongodyo’s death.
According to preliminary police findings, the deceased was allegedly attacked by members of the public who accused him of snatching a woman’s handbag. However, police emphasized that investigations are still underway to establish the exact sequence of events and determine individual responsibilities.
Police officers responded to the scene and rushed Gongodyo to Mulago National Referral Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 7:00 p.m. on June 5, 2026.
Authorities have urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspected criminal activity to the relevant security agencies for lawful action.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
