Lawyer Joshua Okello Patrick has challenged Kasaambya County Member of Parliament Daudi Kabanda over what he describes as selective criticism directed at former Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among.

In a strongly worded statement, Okello argued that accountability in public service should be applied consistently and fairly, warning against what he termed the politicization of anti-corruption campaigns.

"The fight for accountability is a noble democratic duty, but it cannot be selective or weaponized for political convenience," Okello said. "Leaders who seek to hold others accountable must first be prepared to account for their own actions and political associations."

Okello questioned Kabanda's previous relationship with Among, noting that the legislator had at one time been among her supporters and political allies. He argued that Kabanda should explain his role and involvement during periods when he publicly backed the former Speaker's leadership before positioning himself as one of her critics.

According to Okello, accountability should not be influenced by changing political circumstances or personal interests.

"You cannot praise a system today and condemn it tomorrow simply because political winds have shifted," he stated.

The activist further claimed that criticism directed at Among has often extended beyond legitimate accountability concerns and become entangled in broader political struggles. He suggested that some of the attacks against the former Speaker are motivated by political maneuvering rather than genuine efforts to combat corruption.

Okello also maintained that Among has faced significant pressure both domestically and internationally, arguing that public debate surrounding her leadership should be guided by fairness and due process rather than public condemnation.

"The focus should be on fair legal processes, not a lynch mob," he said.

Reaffirming his commitment to speaking out on issues he believes are important, Okello said he would continue to advocate for what he described as universal accountability across all levels of leadership.

He called on Ugandans to demand transparency from all public officials regardless of political affiliation, emphasizing that accountability should be applied equally rather than selectively.

"Let us demand fair, transparent, and universal accountability for all leaders, rather than selectively targeting individuals while protecting the hidden interests of others," Okello added.
