KATAKWI - A devastating road accident along Katakwi-Soroti Road has resulted in the loss of two lives and left twenty individuals critically injured. The incident occurred at Kide village in Getom Sub County, Katakwi District, involving a Tata vehicle and a Bodaboda motorcycle.
According to Rt Maj Godfrey Katamba, the RDC of Katakwi district, the tragedy unfolded at around 6:00 am on Thursday when the Tata with registration number UBP 936M, traveling from Katakwi to Soroti, collided with a Bodaboda motorcycle registered as UEJ 5621P. The collision occurred in Kide village-Getom Sub County.
"The driver of the Tata attempted a maneuver, swerving to his extreme right, where he collided with an oncoming Bodaboda motorcycle," explained Tumusiime.
The victims were identified as Jenifer Amuge, 37, of Getom village in Getom Sub County, Katakwi District, and her unidentified husband. Their bodies have been transported to Katakwi General Hospital for postmortem, while the critically injured are receiving treatment at the same facility.
RDC Katamba attributed the accident to "reckless driving," emphasizing the need for road safety measures. Meanwhile, Hon Geoffrey Omolo, interviewed at the scene, urged the community to exercise caution on main roads.
This tragic incident occurred just a week after Chairman Omolo's prior warning on road safety in the Teso sub-region.
