The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) officials are set to unveil the results of the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) after securing an appointment with the First Lady, who is also the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi Museveni.

Recently, Uneb spokesperson Jennifer Kalule disclosed that although the PLE 2023 results were ready for release, an appointment with Janet Museveni was pending.

Traditionally, the release of PLE results and other national examinations involves Uneb officials briefing the education minister on candidates' and districts' performance. Expectations were high among the 749,347 candidates, including 391,558 females and 357,789 males, as well as parents and teachers for the release of PLE results this week.

However, The Pearl Times has learned that the office of the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports has confirmed Janet Museveni's availability to receive Uneb officials for a briefing on candidates' performance in the 2023 PLE.

In a communication dated January 17, Irene Kauma, a senior personal assistant to Janet Museveni, indicated that although a memo on January 12 had slated the briefing and release of PLE 2023 results for January 17 and 18, respectively, at State House Nakasero, these events have been rescheduled.

It is now understood that Uneb will brief Minister Janet Museveni on the performance outlined in PLE 2023 results at 11 am on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at State House Nakasero.

Subsequently, Uneb and the education ministry will officially release PLE 2023 results at 11 am on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at State House Nakasero in the capital, Kampala.

The office of the Minister of Education and Sports has also instructed invited guests intending to attend the briefing and release of PLE 2023 results to undergo Covid-19 tests on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Mulago Platinum Centre from 9 am to 3 pm.

It is noteworthy that First Lady and Education Minister Janet Museveni recently underwent isolation after contracting Covid-19 but has since recovered.
