The Soroti City East Deputy Resident City Commissioner (DRCC), Claire Ayipo, has urged taxi drivers and operators to take an active role in maintaining cleanliness within Soroti City.
Ayipo made the remarks while presiding over the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected leadership of the Soroti-Mbale Taxi Drivers Association.
She observed that taxi operators are among the stakeholders who contribute to waste generation in the city and should therefore participate in efforts to keep the city clean.
Ayipo called on the new leadership to mobilize taxi drivers to participate in the national cleaning exercise conducted at the end of every month, saying collective responsibility is essential in maintaining a clean and orderly city.
She also encouraged the new management to embrace government programmes such as Emyooga, which can provide opportunities for taxi operators to improve their livelihoods through organized financial support.
She emphasized the need to maintain trade order in Soroti City, urging the new leadership to ensure that taxi operators adhere to city regulations and promote discipline within the transport sector.
The DRCC expressed optimism that the new leadership would bring positive changes to the taxi industry.
