Ssekiranda Andrew, better known as Blackman Dragon, the road into music has come with criticism, financial challenges and the desire to prove himself.
Born on June 15, 2008, Blackman Dragon grew up in Nsaggu and attended Kisozi High School. He began his music career in 2026 with the release of his first extended play (EP), Bestii, which blends Afrobeat and dancehall.
Before releasing the project, he says he had faced criticism from peers who felt his earlier music was not well organised. He also struggled to take his previous songs to the studio, making it difficult to produce the kind of music he wanted.
The criticism became one of the reasons he decided to work on Bestii. Rather than continue struggling with his earlier recordings, he set out to release a project that would give his music a clearer direction.
For the young musician, the EP marks an important first step in an industry where getting noticed can be difficult. Releasing music is only part of the challenge; attracting listeners, promoting songs and building a lasting career require time, resources and consistency.
Blackman Dragon says money has been one of the biggest obstacles in his musical journey. He currently has no management and believes having a team behind him would help him move forward.
“I have faced the challenge of funds in my musical journey, but if I get management, I can do well and reach the top,” he says.
Without management, he must find ways to develop his music and get it to listeners while dealing with the costs involved. For emerging artists, limited finances can affect studio access, promotion and the ability to reach audiences beyond their immediate surroundings.
His ambition is to grow beyond his first release, but that will depend on what he does next: improving his sound, releasing music consistently and finding an audience willing to listen.
With Bestii, Blackman Dragon has taken his first step into the music industry. The project is the beginning of his story, and the challenge now is to turn that beginning into a sustainable career.
