The Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Anita Among, has expressed her heartfelt condolences over the passing of renowned journalist, civil servant, and social-political commentator, Joseph Tamale Mirundi.
Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a prominent political commentator and former presidential press secretary, has died at the age of 60.
He passed away on Tuesday at 11:40 pm at Kisubi Hospital in Kampala due to complications related to lung disease.
According to family sources, Mirundi had been hospitalized for over a month, showing signs of improvement before his condition suddenly deteriorated. His son revealed that doctors had been treating him for water in his lungs, but unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse when they attempted to drain the fluid, and it turned out to be blood.
In a statement posted on the X platform, Speaker Among said: "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend, Joseph Tamale Mirundi. As a journalist, civil servant, and social-political commentator, Mirundi made significant contributions to his country, and his loss leaves a great void."
Speaker Among praised Tamale Mirundi's dedication to his work, noting that his contributions had a lasting impact on Uganda. She extended her sympathies to his family, friends, and relatives, saying: "My sympathies go out to Counsel John Mirundi, the entire family, his friends, and relatives. May his soul rest in peace."
Tamale Mirundi's passing has sent shockwaves throughout Uganda, with many prominent figures and citizens mourning his loss. His legacy as a fearless and incisive commentator on Ugandan politics and society will be deeply missed.
