Once person has been confirmed dead, with several others injured after a Fuso truck lost control along Soroti-Moroto Highway.
Eyewitnesses report that the Fuso truck, with registration number UAL 522D, was traveling from Katakwi District to Kachumbala in Bukedea District when the crash occurred.
Bosco Egasu, a secretary in the office of the LCI, confirmed the incident, attributing the cause to overspeeding. The accident took place in Kide Village, Abela Parish, Getom Sub County.
Hon. David Eilor Kadogo, Chairman LCIII of Getom Sub County, expressed concern about the growing number of accidents in the area. "Abela Parish is becoming a hotspot for accidents in our sub-county," he remarked.
He called on the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to implement new safety measures along the Soroti-Karamoja road. "At the very least, humps should be installed from Getom Trading Centre to Katakwi Technical Institute," he suggested.
LCV Chairperson of Katakwi District, Hon. Geoffrey Omolo, described the district’s situation as dire, urging the public to remain calm while medical teams attend to the injured.
Deputy RDC Katakwi, Xavier Vincent Okwi, confirmed that more than 78 women were on board the Fuso truck at the time of the accident. He urged drivers to exercise caution while navigating the roads.
The injured have been rushed to Katakwi General Hospital and Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
