Three staff members from Apex Medical and Diagnostic Center in Bukedea District have been arrested following the death of an expectant mother. The trio; Patricia Alupo, Cuthbert Okwi, and Sarah Angodia were taken into custody over the weekend after the unfortunate passing of Beatrice, a woman who had earlier failed to deliver at Bukedea Health Center IV.

According to local reports, Beatrice had been referred to Atutur Hospital for further medical intervention after complications arose at the health center. However, instead of reaching the hospital, she was diverted to Apex Medical and Diagnostic Center, where she later died.

The incident sparked outrage in the community, particularly in Ogil Parish, Kamaca Sub County in Kumi District, where the deceased was a resident. Angry locals stormed the clinic, demanding answers and accountability from the staff regarding Beatrice's death.

Moses Justine Asire, the Kamaca Sub County LC3 chairperson, urged residents to place their trust in government health facilities, emphasizing the need to prioritize safer options for medical care over private clinics with questionable practices.

Confirming the arrests, Richard Asiimwe, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Bukedea, stated that the investigation is ongoing. He also issued a stern warning to medical practitioners in the region, reminding them to adhere to professional standards and protocols to prevent further tragedies.
