KALAKI - Teso's celebrated singer-turned-politician, Omara David, popularly known as 2GB, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Member of Parliament seat in Kalaki County in the 2026 elections under the NRM ticket.
This announcement sets the stage for a political contest against the incumbent, Hon. Dr. Clement Kenneth Ongalo-Obote, the current State Minister for Teso Affairs.
Omara David's Vision for Kalaki
During the launch of the "David Omara Football Tournament", Omara outlined his vision for Kalaki county, focusing on:
Youth Empowerment: Establishing partnerships with NGOs to create job opportunities and expanding projects like piggery, poultry farming, tailoring programs, and technical training garages in Otuboi.
Women's Rights: Advocating for the establishment of a home for widows in Kalaki to address their concerns and provide support, while reducing the burden on women by introducing water trucks.
Improved Services: Pledging to attract funding and partnerships to improve schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.
Promoting Talent and Sports: Organizing the football tournament to unite the community and nurture young talent, with unique awards and inclusivity for women.
A Call for Change
Omara criticized the current leadership approach in Kalaki, emphasizing the need for a shift to development-focused, people-centered politics. He highlighted the neglect of youth, who he says are often valued during campaigns but forgotten afterward.
“Kalaki has been left behind for too long. It’s time to tell a new story—one of hope, empowerment, and progress,” Omara said.
As the 2026 elections approach, the anticipated contest between Omara David and Hon. Dr. Clement Kenneth Ongalo-Obote is shaping up to be a pivotal moment for Kalaki District. Voters will have the opportunity to decide the direction of their district's future.
