Soroti – The Soroti Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 43-year-old man to prison on allegations of defrauding Shs6 million in a fraudulent land transaction.
Daniel Jude Okanya, a resident of Oderai Cell B in Oderai Ward, Soroti City West Division, appeared before Soroti Grade One Magistrate Kasujja Kibirige Apollo on Tuesday. He is charged with obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 285 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 120.
According to the charge sheet, between 2009 and 2016, Okanya allegedly obtained Shs6 million from Titus Otim, claiming he would sell him a plot of land, which he did not own.
Okanya denied the charges during his appearance in court.
State Attorney Emmanuel Mwesinge informed the court that investigations into the matter were still ongoing and requested an adjournment.
Magistrate Kasujja consequently remanded the accused to Soroti Prison until May 21st, 2025, when the case will return to court for hearing.
