Soroti City – In a scene filled with color, music, and optimism, hundreds of enthusiastic supporters have flocked to Soroti Sports Ground for the grand homecoming ceremony of Calvin Echodu—a celebrated philanthropist and emerging political figure who recently declared his intention to contest for the position of NRM National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda.
The much-anticipated event is drawing not only locals but also dignitaries from various parts of the country, including cultural leaders, NRM district leaders, and senior NRM party officials. The day’s celebration will be capped by entertainment from top regional performers, dancers, and cultural troupes, creating a festival-like atmosphere.
Echodu, who has earned public admiration for his contributions to education, health, and infrastructure development across Teso sub-region, is now aiming to translate his grassroots influence into political leadership. His candidacy comes at a time when the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is gearing up for internal elections ahead of the 2026 general polls.
He joins a growing list of contenders eyeing the influential NRM National Vice Chairperson (Eastern Region) seat like
Mike Mukula, the incumbent and others.
Security has been tightened in and around Soroti Sports Ground as crowds continue to build ahead of the main address.
Calvin Echodu is expected to enter the city where he will be received by thousands before he moves around a few wards around the city then later addressing the masses at the venue.
