Soroti City:In a bold move to improve household incomes and promote sustainable livelihoods, Isaac Orego, a National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary aspirant for Soroti City East, has distributed over 500 improved chicks to various community savings and farmers’ groups within the division.
The poultry initiative, which targets grassroots economic empowerment, benefited over a dozen groups across Soroti City East. Each group received between 20 and 50 chicks, aimed at boosting poultry farming efforts and increasing income generation at the household level.
The beneficiary groups include:LO ICAN MAM EPASI Savings Group – 40 chicks,Ogasia Farmers Savings Group – 30 chicks,Ebumakinos Savings Group, Asinge Cell – 30 chicks,Egangakinos Savings Group, Asinge Cell Madera – 30 chicks,Amunokinos Women Savings Group, Aloet AKUM B – 30 chicks,Amori ICAN Poultry Group, Omirio Opuyo – 20 chicks,Aminanaros Poultry Keeping Group, Omirio – 20 chicks,Owalei Asianut Poultry Group, Owalei Opuyo – 20 chicks,Ebumakinos Savings Group, Omirio Opuyo Ward – 20 chicks,Opiyai B Women Savings Group – 50 chicks,Akisim Youth Development Association, Akisim Ward – 30 chicks,Madera Central Cell Landlords Association, Aminit – 30 chicks,Kichinjaji Women’s Group – 30 chicks
Local leaders and group representatives praised the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with the community's desire for economic transformation.
Richard Okwii, Chairperson of the LO ICAN MAM EPASI Savings Group, expressed heartfelt appreciation. "We are deeply grateful to Isaac Orego for supporting us with these chicks. This project will help us build sustainable income sources and improve our living conditions."
Christine Aliano, Vice Chairperson of the Ogasia Farmers Savings and Credit Group, noted the long-standing need for such support. "For years, we have been yearning for an opportunity like this. It gives us a starting point to expand our poultry activities and uplift our families."
While handing over the chicks, Isaac Orego emphasized that his mission is rooted in empowerment, resilience, and lasting change.
"My interest is to empower households and cause everlasting change in families," said Orego. “When families thrive economically, the entire community benefits. This initiative is one of many steps toward a more self-reliant and prosperous Soroti City East.”
The poultry distribution campaign forms part of Orego’s broader community engagement strategy, which includes youth development, women empowerment, and agricultural transformation.
As the 2026 elections draw closer, this initiative has already sparked conversations around practical, community-driven leadership—one chick at a time.
