Kampala - The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced June 15, 2025, as the deadline for normal registration for candidates sitting for this year’s Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
According to Jennifer Kalule Musamba, the Principal Public Relations Officer at UNEB, the registration fees for the 2025 national examinations remain unchanged from the previous year. She confirmed that the standard registration fee for PLE candidates is UGX 34,000, for UCE candidates is UGX 164,000, and for UACE candidates is UGX 186,000. Kalule emphasized the importance of registering within the stipulated period to avoid additional costs.
She further warned that late registration after June 15 will attract surcharges. Candidates registering late for PLE will pay UGX 68,000, which is a 100 percent surcharge. UCE candidates will incur either UGX 246,000, reflecting a 50 percent surcharge, or UGX 328,000 for the latest possible registration, a full 100 percent surcharge. For UACE, late registration will cost UGX 279,000 for a 50 percent surcharge or UGX 372,000 for the latest registration phase.
Kalule advised that candidates who miss the normal registration deadline will only be accommodated during the late registration period, which comes with significantly higher fees. She urged school administrators to register learners promptly and ensure accuracy in student information such as names, dates of birth, gender, selected schools, and attached passport photographs. Errors in these details, she noted, could lead to complications later in the examination process.
She also issued a strong reminder to heads of government-aided schools that the government will not cover the penalties associated with late registration. This means that such institutions will be forced to bear the financial burden themselves, underscoring the urgency of timely registration.
UNEB reports that 1,372,015 candidates have registered so far for the 2025 national examinations. This includes 809,384 candidates for PLE, 404,682 for UCE, and 157,949 for UACE. The registration process is being carried out via the Access Management Information System (AMIS), and schools experiencing technical challenges have been advised to download and install the latest system patch from the UNEB portal to ensure smooth operations.
Across the country, the registration process is progressing steadily. In the Teso sub-region, head teachers have confirmed that many learners have already been registered. David Omaali, the Head Teacher of Agora Secondary School, stated that his school has successfully completed the registration of its students. Similarly, Julius Ochola, Director of Unity Nursery and Primary School in Soroti City West, confirmed that all eligible candidates at his school have been registered for the upcoming Primary Leaving Examinations.
As the deadline nears, UNEB urges school heads and administrators to prioritize timely registration and ensure that all required details are thoroughly checked to avoid complications during the examination period.
