The Bishop of the Church of Uganda, Soroti diocese, the Rt. Rev. Kosea Odongo has urged Christians across the greater Teso region to uphold the values of love, unity, and mutual support in their daily lives. His appeal came during a vibrant celebration marking his sixth anniversary as bishop, held at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Soroti.

The event drew hundreds of congregants, including clergy, local leaders, and civil servants, who gathered to honor Bishop Odongo’s six years of service and leadership. In his address, the bishop reflected on his pastoral journey, emphasizing the importance of genuine love and communal harmony among Christians.

“Let us continue to love each other genuinely and support one another in all circumstances,” Bishop Odongo stated. “As Christians, we are called to be a reflection of God's love.”

The celebration was further graced by the presence of Rt. Rev. John Mark Haung Godia, Bishop of Maseno West Diocese in Kenya, was the main celebrant. Bishop Godia commended the Soroti Diocese for honoring its spiritual leaders and fostering a culture of gratitude and encouragement.

“It is not only important to celebrate the bishop but also the lay readers, choir members, and the entire Christian community. Recognizing their service motivates them to continue their dedication to the work of the Church,” Bishop Godia remarked.

Soroti City Council Speaker, Juliet Agonyo, also lauded Bishop Odongo for his hands-on approach to community development, highlighting his active involvement in a recent city clean-up exercise organized as part of the anniversary celebrations.

"We are grateful for the bishop's leadership not only within the Church but in civic matters like keeping our city clean. His example inspires many," Agonyo said.

The event featured lively praise and worship sessions, heartfelt prayers, and moving tributes from both religious and civic leaders. As the Soroti Diocese continues its spiritual and social transformation, Bishop Odongo’s message of unity, love, and service remains a guiding principle for the faithful.

The celebration served not only as a milestone for the bishop’s ministry but also as a reminder of the collective responsibility of the Church and community in nurturing values that strengthen both faith and fellowship.
