Former Soroti City Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Peter Pex Paak has officially been nominated to contest the Dodoth East County parliamentary seat under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Paak, who served as RCC for Soroti City from September 2021, relinquished his position after nearly four years of public service, under Uganda's constitutional requirement that public officers resign before joining elective politics.

Following his nomination, Paak expressed strong motivation to serve his people more directly.

“My decision to contest in Dodoth East comes from a desire to offer active and effective representation, something I feel the current MP has not provided,” Paak stated.

He criticized the incumbent for what he described as dormant leadership, attributing the region’s slow progress in infrastructure, education, and healthcare to lack of effective parliamentary advocacy.

“I want to be the voice of my people in Parliament. I know the issues affecting Dodoth East, and I am committed to fixing them through strong advocacy and inclusive development initiatives,” he added.

Paak's candidacy has generated significant interest within the constituency, with many residents citing his administrative track record and close engagement with grassroots communities as key strengths.

If elected, Paak pledges to prioritize youth empowerment, improved service delivery, and enhanced security, particularly for pastoralist communities in the semi-arid Karamoja sub-region.

As the race for Dodoth East intensifies, political observers expect it to be among the most closely watched constituencies, as voters weigh the choice between continuity and a fresh approach to leadership.
