AMURIA DISTRICT– Religious leaders in the Teso sub-region are calling for a shift toward integrity and peaceful engagement in the ongoing political campaigns, urging aspirants to prioritize development over personal interests.
Speaking during a homecoming event for Teddy Anyuk Osire, the newly nominated NRM flag bearer for Orungo County, Rev. Canon Lawrence Onyait, the Archdeacon of Orungo Archdeaconry under the Diocese of Soroti, emphasized the need for God-fearing and morally upright leadership.
Rev. Onyait appealed to all politicians in Amuria District and the wider Teso sub-region to conduct peaceful, respectful, and Godly campaigns. He encouraged them to seek divine wisdom and avoid harmful political practices that incite division and unrest.
“Let your campaigns be guided by God’s wisdom. Present your manifestos peacefully and let the people decide. Leadership should be about serving the people, not personal gain,” Rev. Onyait advised.
The cleric stressed that voters should elect leaders committed to the development and welfare of the community. He challenged both aspirants and their supporters to abandon politics of division and embrace issue-based dialogue aimed at improving lives in Orungo County.
In response to the message, Teddy Anyuk Osire expressed gratitude for the spiritual guidance and pledged to champion a campaign rooted in peace, transparency, and development.
“I appreciate Rev. Onyait’s wise counsel. If elected, I will focus on delivering tangible development to Orungo County and remain accountable to the people,” Osire said.
The event, held in Orungo Sub-county, attracted hundreds of supporters and religious leaders, underscoring the growing call for ethical and development-centered politics in the region.
Rev. Onyait's message resonates with many citizens who hope for leaders that embody servant leadership and put the people first. As campaigns intensify ahead of the upcoming elections, such voices are seen as crucial in shaping a more constructive and peaceful political environment in Teso.
