Dakabela, Uganda – As the race for the Member of Parliament seat for Dakabela County intensifies, Anyimo Harriet, the only female contender in the upcoming NRM party primaries slated for July 17, 2025, has positioned herself as a people-centered leader determined to address the pressing challenges in the region.

With a campaign built on education reform, health sector improvement, and youth empowerment, Anyimo promises transformative leadership rooted in service delivery.

Speaking during a community engagement in Dakabela, Anyimo emphasized that her candidacy is not based on politics as usual, but on the real issues affecting ordinary citizens.

“I haven’t come to complain—I have come to serve. I have walked across this county and seen the struggles our people face. Schools are overcrowded, health centres lack staff, and our young people have no skills or jobs. These are the issues I intend to address,” she told residents.

On the education front, Anyimo expressed concern over the rising number of students per classroom and the limited number of teachers, which she says compromises the quality of learning. She pledged to lobby for the recruitment and deployment of more teachers to both primary and secondary schools in Dakabela.

“Education is the foundation of development. Without enough teachers and proper learning conditions, our children are left behind,” she said.

In the health sector, Anyimo highlighted the widespread understaffing in health facilities and the lack of access to emergency services in remote areas. She promised to advocate for increased government support in the recruitment of health workers and the provision of essential medical equipment.

“I will lobby for an ambulance to serve across Dakabela County. Many people suffer or die on their way to health centres because of the long distances. We can no longer ignore this,” she stated.

Addressing the youth unemployment crisis, Anyimo proposed the establishment of a technical and vocational training institute in the county to equip young people with hands-on skills that can lead to employment and self-reliance.

“Parents can’t afford formal education beyond a certain level. We need to offer practical alternatives through skills development so that our youth are not left behind,” she emphasized.

As the first woman to enter the MP race in Dakabela County, Anyimo’s campaign has generated excitement among women and youth, while also stirring debate about gender roles in politics. She remains confident that her voice, as a woman, will bring a fresh and effective approach to leadership.

“A woman’s voice can be heard, especially in lobbying. I will use that strength to advocate for the needs of our people,” she added.

Anyimo will face off against seasoned male contenders, including Simon Peter Edoru Ekuu, Peter Edeku, and others, in what is expected to be a tight primary race.
