SOROTI DISTRICT - Bob Owiny, the current district councilor representing Tubur, has secured a commanding victory in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for the Soroti District Local Council Five (LC5) seat. The outcome firmly establishes him as the party's flag bearer ahead of the 2026 general elections.

According to official results released by Soroti District NRM Electoral Returning Officer James Egaru, Owiny garnered 34,451 votes, comfortably outpacing his closest contender, Vincent Enomu, who polled 29,488 votes. Other aspirants, Stephen Olebe and Stephen Ejoku, trailed with 4,869 and 4,080 votes respectively. The NRM register for the district had 72,888 registered voters.

Owiny’s decisive win reflects broad grassroots support across the district and affirms his growing political influence in the region. His campaign focused on community engagement, service delivery, and a promise of inclusive development — messages that evidently resonated with the electorate.

Speaking moments after his victory was declared, Owiny extended his gratitude to the voters and reaffirmed his commitment to development-oriented leadership.

“I am deeply humbled by this victory and thankful to the people of Soroti for believing in me,” Owiny stated. “This win is not just mine — it belongs to every person who shares the vision of a stronger and more united Soroti under the leadership of the NRM.”

He further urged party supporters to remain mobilized and focused ahead of the 2026 general elections, emphasizing that the journey toward transformative leadership had only begun.

The NRM primaries were conducted peacefully across Soroti District, with high voter turnout and minimal incidents. Returning Officer James Egaru praised the conduct of both the voters and candidates, describing the electoral process as free, fair, and transparent.

Observers attribute Owiny’s strong performance to his consistent visibility at the grassroots level, his track record in public service, and a strategic campaign approach that emphasized unity, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.

With the NRM flag now in hand, Owiny is set to face candidates from other political parties in the upcoming general election. However, with such a strong showing in the primaries, many believe he enters the next phase of the race with significant momentum.
