Soroti City residents advised to use PDM funds for transforming their livelihoods

SOROTI - In order to change their livelihoods, beneficiaries of the PDM in Soroti city have been advised to inject the funds into money making projects rather than wasting it on things that don't bring growth.

 

While giving her speech during the PDM launch in Soroti city at the mayor's gardens in a function attend attended by hundreds of people from the city, Rosette Stella kokoi the PDM coordinator in soroti city said that the money is meant for all people and it's never politically disbursed.

 

"People will all get money but ensure that the money is put into good use rather than spending it without better plans",she added.

 

"As commercial banks we pledge to play our role as expected of us, the journey is starting today to our beneficiaries, use the money as seed capital and try to multiple it where possible as if done well will surely change livelihoods",Charles Osilo the centenary bank branch manager in soroti said.

 

Mean while the City clerk ,Kawesi Daniel explained that about 26billion ugx is allocated for 25 wards in the city with each SACCO meant to get about 107m ugx.

 

He also noted that there are higher expectations from the public as most people look at getting the funds though they are not beneficiaries as the money is for those who are not in the money economy thus calling upon for continuous sensitization of the community on the PDM with support of facilitation to carry out the task as people have embraced it in it's dynamic initiative of changing livelihoods.

 

RCC Peter Pex Paak while giving his remarks said that," Maintain financial discipline, get the money and return it so that others also benefit from it while looking at a particular business to run rather than changing into what you can't do then later fail to pay back the money",

 

The chief guest, Herbert Edmund Ariko the MP of Soroti city east appreciated government for introducing the program as it's intended to develop the livelihoods of the people in different parishes urging the residents to put the money in to good use.

 

 He further urged the group leaders to ensure the safety of the funds and being open to the members rather than doing things secretly as government is not going to go mute on the funds being used carelessly.

 

"PDM is becoming a stand that we shall also witness, mindset change will bring impact, I appreciate the different financial institutions for standing strong with government in transforming the lives of the people", he added.

 

During the launch, more than 100 beneficiaries.
