Amuria District – Political tensions have intensified in Orungo County following a bold declaration by David Elolu Omoto, who has announced his bid for the Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming general elections. In a strongly worded statement, Elolu criticized what he described as “sleeping leadership” and vowed to inject new energy and direction into Orungo’s political landscape.

Speaking at a press briefing held at Sports View Hotel in Kampala over the weekend, Elolu said his decision to run was not personal but a response to persistent calls from the people of Orungo, who he claims are frustrated with stagnant leadership and unmet promises.

“The people are tired of leaders who make noise during campaigns and go silent afterward. We need action, not rhetoric. I am here to declare war on sleeping leadership and offer a new path of transparency, accountability, and visible progress,” Elolu stated.

Elolu emphasized that his campaign will focus on education reform, youth empowerment, and the fight against corruption. He pledged to lobby for scholarships, organize youth trainings, and advocate for policies that will foster both academic excellence and job creation in the constituency.

With a background as a professional consultant, Elolu believes he brings the technical knowledge and strategic experience required to transform critical sectors in Orungo, including infrastructure, health, and governance.

He further accused current leaders of failing to ensure equitable resource distribution, promising to introduce strict accountability measures and transparent reporting systems once elected.

“We have resources, but where are the results? It’s time to audit leadership and bring back hope to the people. My approach is inclusive, and my goal is to serve—not to rule,” he added.

Elolu also commended some achievements in the constituency, such as the extension of power to several sub-counties, but stressed the need to expand these developments to the parish and village levels to support grassroots initiatives.

His announcement comes at a time when political dynamics in Orungo are shifting. Elolu, running as an independent, is expected to face off against NRM flagbearer Teddy Anyuk Osire, who recently secured the party ticket following a tight contest against Solomon Amali and Abraham Opio.

Meanwhile, the incumbent MP, Rt. Gen. Jeje Odongo, has yet to declare whether he will seek re-election, leaving the political field wide open and fueling speculation within the constituency.

As the 2026 general elections draw closer, all eyes are now on Orungo County, where residents eagerly await the emergence of new leadership that promises not just representation—but results.
