TESO – The Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) has raised alarm over reports of fraudsters moving around villages claiming to be registering people for the government’s Cattle Restocking Program, warning the public to remain vigilant against such scams.

In a statement issued on Thursday, ICU clarified that it is not conducting any registration for cattle restocking, adding that the program is a Government of Uganda initiative still under consultation with the relevant authorities.

According to the Union, some individuals have been extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of representing ICU. The Union has since notified the Uganda Police Force and other security agencies to investigate and arrest the culprits.

“The ICU is not registering anyone for the cattle re-stocking exercise. What ICU is currently undertaking is the ICU Census Exercise, which began in March and is ongoing. This census is strictly for development planning and policy formulation within the Union and other stakeholders,” said Andrew Ocole, the ICU Prime Minister.

The Union emphasized that the ongoing census is being carried out solely by authorized ICU officials and should not be mistaken for the government’s cattle restocking program.

ICU has now urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid falling victim to fraudsters, and immediately report such cases to its offices or the nearest police station for appropriate legal action.

ICU reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the Iteso people, while working with government and development partners to promote transparency, accountability, and the success of legitimate programs.
