John Emmanuel Opio, the independent candidate for Soroti City Mayor, has made a strong commitment to improving the city's education sector. Speaking to students at Soroti Secondary School during a school assembly, Emmanuel emphasized the pivotal role that education plays in shaping the future of the country and its citizens. His remarks resonated with both students and staff, as he underscored education as the cornerstone of national development.

In his address, Opio expressed a deep belief that "education is the foundation of great citizens in our country." He explained that under his leadership, the educational landscape in Soroti City would undergo a significant transformation. Opio assured the students that he would prioritize the enhancement of learning facilities to ensure a conducive environment for their academic growth.

The independent candidate outlined his plan to collaborate with various stakeholders, including local authorities and educational institutions, to improve resources and infrastructure within schools. This initiative, he noted, would not only improve the learning experience for students but also empower teachers to deliver their lessons more effectively. Emmanuel acknowledged the challenges teachers face, citing inadequate teaching materials and difficult working conditions, and vowed to work towards alleviating these problems.

"I will work towards reducing the burdens that teachers go through in the course of their duties," Opio stated. He promised to provide better support to educators by improving their work environment, offering additional training, and advocating for better remuneration where possible. According to Opio, teacher welfare is key to ensuring the delivery of quality education, and he is committed to making this a priority.

Beyond the classroom, Opio also highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities in the development of students. He stated that he would champion the promotion of various co-curricular activities within schools, recognizing them as essential for the holistic development of young people.
