Soroti City — Rody Akongel Mukula, a prominent media owner has officially declared his intention to contest as Member of Parliament for Soroti City East Division in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a press conference held yesterday, Mukula announced that he will be nominated on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 9:30 a.m at the Electoral Commission offices, becoming the first candidate to be nominated across Soroti City East and West.

Mukula expressed deep gratitude to the people of Soroti City East for their support during his consultative meetings, noting that his campaign is driven by a desire to restore hope, integrity, and purposeful leadership.

“I have come back home to serve our people,” Mukula said. “I have seen their suffering, the pain of empty promises, and the disappointment that comes from unfulfilled leadership. But I am here to tell you—do not lose hope.”

Running as an independent candidate, Mukula explained that his decision reflects a belief in meritocracy and inclusive representation, rather than partisan loyalty.

“Leadership is about serving all people, not just those who belong to a political party,” he noted. “The Constitution gives us the right to represent our people fairly, and that is exactly what I intend to do.”

Three-Pillar Manifesto for Transformation

Mukula’s manifesto is anchored on three major pillars — economic empowerment, social service delivery, and good governance.

Under economic empowerment, Mukula identified unemployment and limited youth opportunities as key challenges in Soroti City East. He praised the government for stabilizing security but called on young people, especially those in the media and creative industry, to rise and drive local transformation.

On social service delivery, Mukula decried the state of healthcare facilities, the shortage of essential drugs, and limited access to clean water. He revealed that he has already rehabilitated 21 boreholes in the community as part of his service initiatives and pledged to do more if elected.

“Our hospitals are struggling; nurses are overwhelmed, and communities lack clean water. This must change. Development begins with service to humanity,” he emphasized.

For good governance, Mukula underscored the need for integrity, accountability, and transparency in leadership.

“Good governance means fair representation and inclusive leadership,” he said. “This election is not about me—it’s about the city, our people, and restoring hope for those who have lost faith in the system.”

Mukula urged residents of Soroti City East to remain united regardless of political affiliation, tribe, or social background. He also called upon the media to promote fairness and professionalism throughout the campaign period.

“The media is the fourth arm of government. You shape narratives and influence public opinion,” Mukula said. “As a member of the media fraternity for 15 years, I appeal to you—let’s maintain balance, avoid propaganda, and promote issue-based politics.”

Mukula, who once managed Voice of Teso, reaffirmed his commitment to serve all citizens under the spirit of “Temufa ayotuli wamu” — meaning we move together.

“Come January 12, 2026, I believe God will bless us with victory. Let us vote wisely and choose leaders who prioritize unity, service, and accountability,” he concluded.
