Amuria District —The district leadership of Amuria has appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to prioritize industrial and infrastructure investments in the area to accelerate socio-economic transformation and enhance service delivery.
The appeal was made during a campaign rally held at Amuria Secondary School grounds, where the district leaders, led by Hon. Okello Simon Peter, Acting District NRM Chairperson, presented a comprehensive memorandum to the President. The document outlined the district’s major achievements under the NRM government and key priority areas requiring further government attention.
In their address, the leaders commended President Museveni for steering the country toward peace, stability, and development. They noted that Amuria District has greatly benefited from his leadership, particularly in the areas of security, education, health, and infrastructure development. The establishment of the Usalama Brigade in Kapelebyong was singled out as a major milestone in enhancing regional peace and safety, which has allowed communities to rebuild and thrive after years of insurgency and cattle raids.
The memorandum highlighted substantial progress in road infrastructure, with more than 85% of the district’s 461-kilometer network rehabilitated, boosting trade and accessibility. It also underscored advancements in education, including the construction of new classroom blocks and the establishment of seed secondary schools, which have improved enrollment and reduced school dropout rates, especially among girls.
Amuria leaders further praised government programs such as the Presidential Skilling Initiative and the Parish Development Model (PDM) for empowering youth and households with income-generating skills and financial capital.
Additionally, investments in health facilities, including the ongoing upgrade of Amuria Health Centre IV to hospital status, and the expansion of rural water coverage have significantly improved the welfare of residents.
Despite these achievements, the district leadership appealed for targeted government investment to sustain economic growth. They called for the tarmacking of key road networks, including the Soroti–Amuria–Obalanga–Acan Pii Road and Atirir–Orungo–Obalanga Road,to enhance connectivity and trade.
The leaders also requested the establishment of an Industrial and Value-Addition Park in Dokolo-Asamuk Sub-county to process local produce such as cassava, simsim, and oilseeds, which would create jobs and boost farmers’ incomes.
The memorandum further urged government to elevate Ogolai Technical Institute to a diploma-awarding institution, upgrade Orungo Health Centre III to Health Centre IV, and support the coding of community primary schools to improve access to quality education. The leaders also appealed for the desilting of 28 community dams.and the expedition of the cattle rehabilitation program to strengthen the district’s agricultural base.
In their concluding remarks, the Amuria district leadership reaffirmed their commitment to the NRM government and President Museveni’s vision for socio-economic transformation.
They pledged to mobilize communities through the village-based strategy to ensure overwhelming support for the President in upcoming elections, promising to deliver a resounding 95% victory for the NRM in Amuria District.
