SERERE DISTRICT - The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders and residents of Serere District have reaffirmed their unwavering support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM Party Chairman, as he continues his campaign trail across the Eastern region.
During a rally held at the Serere District Headquarters today, district leaders led by Olobo Michael, the NRM District Chairperson, presented a memorandum to the President outlining key development priorities for the area. The event attracted hundreds of NRM supporters and local leaders, all eager to express their gratitude and expectations from the government.
In their memorandum, the leaders lauded President Museveni for his visionary leadership and the government’s socio-economic transformation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Presidential Youth Skilling Programme.
According to the report presented, 21,560 households in Serere District have benefited from the PDM, receiving a cumulative total of UGX 21.56 billion, while 3,785 beneficiaries accessed UGX 1.8 billion through the Emyooga initiative. Additionally, youth SACCOs under the Presidential Skilling Programme received UGX 50 million, and 61 youths have graduated in various vocational skills, enhancing employability and self-reliance in the community.
The memorandum also highlighted several development concerns and priorities, including:
Upgrading Serere Health Centre IV to a General Hospital with a General Surgical Ward.
Tarmacking of Soroti–Serere–Mugarama–Mulondo Road and Ngora–Serere–Kagwara Road.
Creation of Serere Municipality and Kasilo District.
Fulfilling the pending pledge of a school bus to St. Elizabeth Girls’ Secondary School, Katakwi.
The leaders expressed optimism that these interventions would further boost economic activity, improve healthcare, and enhance infrastructure within the district.
The Serere NRM leadership pledged total support to President Museveni and the NRM Party in the forthcoming elections, reaffirming their commitment to uphold and protect the gains achieved under his leadership.
