Parliamentary candidate for Soroti City East, Isaac Orego, has reiterated his commitment to prioritizing the construction and rehabilitation of teachers’ and headteachers’ quarters if elected to Parliament. Addressing residents of Kengere Ward, Orego expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of staff housing in many schools, noting that several structures have become unsafe and unfit for habitation.
Orego argued that the current state of the teachers’ quarters reflects years of neglect by leaders who, he said, have focused on political confrontation rather than championing development. He criticized the incumbent leadership for “failing to deliver essential services,” stressing that communities deserve leaders who work closely with government to address pressing needs instead of engaging in what he described as unproductive opposition.
Highlighting the constitutional mandate of Members of Parliament, Orego emphasized that oversight should be exercised to ensure that government programs are implemented effectively and that public institutions operate in proper condition. He stated that his leadership would make service delivery a central focus, with education infrastructure forming a critical part of his development agenda.
The candidate also raised alarms about the poor fencing in many school compounds, which he said compromises the security of both teachers and learners. He noted that several schools lack proper boundaries, exposing staff to insecurity and limiting the safe operation of educational activities. Orego pledged to lobby for improved fencing and general school infrastructure as part of a broader effort to restore confidence in the education system.
Orego urged residents to consider leadership that delivers tangible results, promising that his tenure would be marked by accountability, improved services, and stronger collaboration between communities and government institutions. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that schools in Soroti City East receive the attention and resources required to create a secure and conducive learning environment.
