Bukedea District — Silas Opejo, a parliamentary candidate associated with the PLU pressure group and working closely with the NRM party, has pledged to revolutionise youth livelihoods in Bukedea County through the establishment of a vocational skilling centre.
Speaking during a county wide campaign tour, Opejo highlighted critical development gaps facing young people in Bukedea. He noted that traditional education alone is not sufficient to address unemployment and stressed the importance of practical, skills-based training.
His proposed skilling centre will offer various vocational and entrepreneurial courses, equipping youth with marketable abilities to start their own income-generating ventures.
“There is a need to empower our youth with real, usable skills that will help them create their own opportunities,” Opejo said.
He further pointed out that with the right mandate, he intends to lobby for improved service delivery and advocate for development programs that directly address the needs of the community. “There are several gaps in Bukedea that must be addressed. With a clear vision, I believe I can lobby for the services our people deserve,” he added.
Opejo emphasized that empowering the youth through skills training is a strategic step toward reducing unemployment, boosting household income, and strengthening community resilience.
As the political season gains momentum, Bukedea County has attracted different aspiring leaders for the same position expected to contest for the Bukedea County MP seat in the 2026–2031 term, among his rivals are the incumbent MP John Bosco Ikojo, who recently expressed dissatisfaction with the NRM primary results and has indicated an independent run if his grievances are not addressed, Okweere Beckham contesting under the NRM ticket, Akol Rose Okullu an independent candidate and others.
