Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Katine Sub-county and the neighboring areas of Oculoi, Tubur, and Wera have received a major boost in mobility after Action of Love International donated 16 wheelchairs to support their daily lives.
The wheelchairs were officially handed over by the Executive Director of Action of Love International, Jefferson Kandi Edimu, who reaffirmed the organization’s mission of supporting people with physical impairments. He emphasized that disability should not be viewed negatively, noting that it is not a mistake but part of human creation. Edimu encouraged parents and guardians to show love, care, and acceptance toward children with disabilities and to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.
Edimu further explained that Action of Love International focuses on empowering persons with disabilities by improving their mobility, access to education, and participation in community life. He said the organization remains committed to working with communities to reduce stigma and promote inclusion of people living with disabilities.
The Speaker of Soroti District, Steven Olebe, who attended the handover ceremony, urged parents to take full responsibility for the upbringing and education of children with disabilities. Speaking from personal experience as a person living with a disability, Olebe said physical impairment should never be mistaken for lack of intelligence or ability. He noted that many children with disabilities perform exceptionally well academically when given the right support and encouragement.
Olebe called on community members and leaders to prioritize education for children with disabilities and to create an environment where they can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation to Action of Love International, saying the wheelchairs would greatly improve their mobility, independence, and overall quality of life. They noted that the support would enable them to engage more actively in education, social activities, and income-generating opportunities.
The donation marks an important step toward promoting inclusion and improving the welfare of persons with disabilities in Soroti District and other regions, reinforcing the role of partnerships in addressing the needs of vulnerable communities.
