KATAKWI DISTRICT - Vice President Jessica Alupo has been left unopposed in the race for the Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament seat following the withdrawal of her challenger, Angela Anuken.
The Katakwi District Returning Officer, Mr. Stephen Makubuya, confirmed that Anuken formally communicated her decision to withdraw from the contest in line with Electoral Commission procedures. Her decision came before the close of the nomination process, effectively leaving Vice President Alupo as the sole candidate.
“Ms. Angela Anuken duly notified the Electoral Commission of her intention to step down from the race, and all the necessary procedures were followed. As it stands, Hon. Jessica Alupo remains the only duly nominated candidate for the Katakwi District Woman MP position,” Mr. Makubuya stated.
Vice President Alupo, a seasoned legislator and political leader, has represented Katakwi District for several terms. She is widely recognized for her efforts in promoting development initiatives in education, health, water, and infrastructure.
Her unopposed nomination has been interpreted as a reflection of her strong political support and popularity among voters in the district. Local leaders and ruling party supporters have described the development as a validation of Alupo’s performance and leadership at both the district and national levels.
The upcoming elections in Katakwi District will therefore see Vice President Alupo retain her seat unchallenged, further cementing her position as a key political figure in the region.
