Bugondo Sub county is witnessing what political analysts are calling a “political earthquake” as Esther Lucy Acom Ajokotau, an independent candidate for Serere Woman Member of Parliament, gains unprecedented support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Campaign trail reports indicate that Acom’s popularity is steadily rising among residents who express frustration over the lack of visible development under the current incumbent, Minister Adoa Hellen. Locals claim that after nearly ten years in office, there are no tangible projects or programs that have improved their livelihoods, particularly in communities surrounding Lake Kyoga. Several residents highlighted the absence of initiatives such as fish ponds or agricultural development schemes, which they say have left the area lagging economically.
Richard Emanio, head of Acom’s senior task force, noted that some members had previously supported Adoa but became disillusioned after witnessing irregularities and vote manipulation in prior elections. Emanio stated that this time, the campaign is determined to safeguard every vote and ensure transparency, urging supporters to remain vigilant and actively participate in the electoral process.
Addressing residents during her campaign stops, Acom emphasized that her leadership would prioritize inclusivity and empowerment. She promised to champion programs that economically uplift women and youth, support educational institutions, and strengthen churches and faith-based initiatives. “Our support is in you,” she told the crowd. “We are tired of neglect and underdevelopment, and together, we can change that.”
