With only days remaining to the general election, independent Soroti City East parliamentary candidate Rodney Mukula Akongel has urged voters to exercise wisdom and responsibility as they prepare to cast their ballots, warning that the choices made now will determine the direction of leadership for the next five years.
Speaking during a media address in Soroti City, Akongel emphasized that elections are a defining moment for communities and should be treated with seriousness and integrity. He called on voters to carefully listen to all candidates as they present their messages and assess who genuinely understands and represents the interests of the people. According to Akongel, leadership should be earned through vision, service, and commitment to development rather than political noise.
The independent candidate encouraged all eligible voters to collect their voter slips and actively participate in the electoral process. He described voting as a powerful civic duty that allows citizens to shape their future and hold leaders accountable. Akongel cautioned the electorate against being influenced by money, propaganda, or any form of electoral malpractice, noting that such practices distort democracy and often result in poor leadership outcomes.
Akongel further highlighted that since the beginning of his campaign, he has deliberately avoided attacking fellow candidates, choosing instead to focus on issues that matter to the people of Soroti City East. He stated that he does not believe in using propaganda or misinformation to gain political advantage, stressing that elections should be won on merit and the ability to deliver meaningful change.
He added that leadership based on favors, manipulation, or political affiliation often fails to address the real needs of the electorate. Akongel warned that propaganda can mislead voters into making decisions they later regret.
As the election approaches, Akongel reaffirmed his commitment to clean, issue-based politics and appealed to voters to choose leaders who prioritize unity, accountability, and sustainable development for Soroti City East.
